Snowpocalypse! Finally. I thought we might not get any winter this year. Up until this weekend I think we’ve had about 1 inch of snow total for the season and last year at this time we were in the 50s all month, so we seemed to be running out of time when this surprise storm came through and dropped a foot of powder. Here’s a yard shot, after things had compacted a little in today’s afternoon sun, for comparison to the one last month.

We went out to dinner last night, driving through six inches of street snow under snowflake-swirled streetlights. Everything quiet and white, the roads mostly empty. We’re supposed to be in the 40s again later this week, so not sure how long it’ll stick, but it’s great to get a taste of the season at least. The dogs were a little less enthusiastic this morning to paws packed full of snow.

But once we got them playing again, they had a ball.

Great pictures! I guess you’re wishing you were still in GR so you could enjoy this kind of weather for months on end.

I just read that Grand Rapids is at about 90 inches of snow for the winter already. Doesn’t sound like much fun.

Is that a new car (the white one?)

Still no weather down here, and it’s in the 80s this week!

Pretty, isn’t it? You’re right–I have never seen so much snow as we have in GR this year. Fresh few inches every day or two keeps it looking so fresh and bright. It’s almost heresy to say around here, but I am thoroughly loving it. Just mountains of it (makes me laugh to see them even higher most mornings) at the end of my driveway and closing in on sides of driveway. Just squeezing through. Pretty hard to back down driveway–all I see behind me is white. Even Arthur is still solid white, packed down by now. To shovel the front stairs and sidewalk does mean trying to throw the snow up at least 6 to 8 feet–if it doesn’t make it to the top of the pile, it just rolls back down to where it was. At least most of the snow has been the light fluffy stuff cause it’s so cold.

Enjoy whatever winter snow you get! It was slightly below zero this morning when I went out, but there’s talk of it getting a bit above freezing for a day in the next week, I think.

Yeah I guess I can see how it’d be a little enjoyable once you immerse yourself if the ridiculousness of it all. It was 62 degrees here on Wed and 56 degrees today so most of the snow pack in our yard is gone now. Rain the next few days will probably take care of the rest.

Looks like our spell has broken. Sunny and thawing today. Next week a few days in the 30s. No prediction of new snow. People are talking of spring–yup, February in Michigan.
